Specializing in women's healthcare.
We know what women are looking for in their birth experience. How? We've delivered hundreds of babies, and had a few of our own. That's why we know that no two mothers are exactly the same. We treat each birth like the miraculous event it is.
From early in your pregnancy (and sometimes, before), we'll work with you to design an individual care plan. Education and family involvement are essential to the process. And when the big day comes, expect the clinical expertise AWMG is known for - as well as personal interaction, support, and plenty of handholding.
A yearly exam is the cornerstone of every woman's health plan. Ours begin with a thorough evaluation of your health and well-being. That includes a comprehensive pelvic and breast exam, and examination of the heart, lungs, and thyroid gland.
When necessary, screenings for sexually transmitted infections, anemia, high cholesterol, and diabetes are available. We also treat urinary tract and vaginal infections. If other medical problems are identified during your annual screening, our team can arrange referrals and help you schedule appointments with the appropriate specialists.
The array of birth control options can be overwhelming. AWMG physicians can help you evaluate the options and decide which method is best for you. Currently, we offer a wide variety of birth control options including birth control pills, Depo Provera, Nuva Ring, and the Ortho Evra patch. We do fittings for diaphragms and can insert and remove IUDs (both hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs).
If you're interested in a more permanent form of contraception, we can help with that as well. Permanent methods usually involve surgery, although the degrees of invasiveness vary. The result is tubal blockage, cutting, or cauterization.
Having a child is one of the most exciting times in a woman's life. And like most major decisions, it requires a great deal of planning. Taking good care of yourself - even, before becoming pregnant - is the best thing you can do for your baby.
One of the most important steps is a pre-pregnancy examination, also known as pre-conceptual care. This exam may include your family medical history, personal medical history, and vaccination status. Additional steps in the process could include infection screening, smoking cessation assistance, nutrition consulting, fitness planning, genetic testing, and management of preexisting conditions.
While your health plan may change as you approach menopause, it doesn't end. Atlantic Women's Medical Group can help you recognize the signs of perimenopause (which can begin as early as 10 years before menopause) and ease the transition.
We provide natural and conventional hormone replacement; alternatives to hormone therapy; osteoporosis prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment; cardiac risk assessment; mammography and breast health consultation; and urinary health evaluation.
AWMG offers a range of technically advanced options for women who are seeking an alternative to hysterectomy. These include hormone therapy, fibroid embolization, thermal balloon endometrial ablation, hysteroscopic resection of the endometrium, hysteroscopic resection of fibroids, myomectomy for fibroids, and surgeries for uterine prolapse with uterine conservation. Sound confusing? Your physician can help you decide which option is best for your particular condition.
While the physicians at Atlantic Women's Medical Group take a conservative approach to surgery, there are times when it's the best approach.
Our physicians perform the most sophisticated procedures using advanced hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, and vaginal techniques. That includes hysterectomy - one of the most common gynecologic surgeries. We know that having a hysterectomy is one of the most difficult decisions a woman can face. That's why we're here to answer your questions about the procedure, as well as its impacts on your life after recovery.
Pap Smear & Cancer Screening
The pap test screens for malignant and premalignant changes of the cervix. During childbearing years, you should have a pap smear annually. After menopause, pap smears are still necessary, though you may be able to have the test less frequently depending on your particular cancer risk.
When a pap smear produces an abnormal result, AWMG offers additional cancer screening and treatment services. These include colposcopy, cryotherapy, and Loop Electro-surgical Excisional Procedure (LEEP).
STI Screening & Treatment
Atlantic Women's Medical Group provides screening or testing for many Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis, Herpes, Genital Warts, and Syphilis. HIV testing is available and counseling is provided. While most STIs can be treated on-site, referrals are given for treatment of Syphilis and HIV.
When you're ready to have a baby, but are having difficulty conceiving, it may be time for infertility screening. Our approach to infertility is tailored to your individual situation. First, your physician will review your medical history and identify any areas of concern that may be causing your fertility issues. Then, we'll conduct various lab tests ( this may involve analysis of your partner's semen). Depending on the results of the lab tests, we will develop a course of treatment or if necessary, refer you to an infertility specialist.
